for Applications: USAID EPT-2, One Health Workforce

USAID has published a request for applications
to its Emerging Pandemic Threats program (EPT-2). One five year project will be
funded, up to USD 50 million that fulfills the grant’s purpose and goals, as
stated below.
Purpose:
The goal of One Health Workforce (OHW) is to
employ the strengths of universities to prepare the “One Health” workforce in
core competencies and skills for preventing, controlling, detecting and
responding to zoonotic diseases.
Like its predecessors, EPT-2 has three
overarching purposes: (1) prevention of the spillover, amplification, and
spread of new zoonotic viruses; (2) early detection of new viruses
when they do emerge; and (3) their timely and effective control.
Goals:
Objective 1: Support African and Southeast Asian One Health
University Networks to participate with government, academia, and other key
partners in defining one health workforce needs. (This objective contributes to
EPT-2 Strategic Areas of Focus 4 and 5, and it is linked to the EPT-2
“Preparedness and Response” project).
Objective 2: Support the African and Southeast Asian One
Health University Networks to assist government ministries to train the future
“One Health” workforce. (This objective contributes to EPT-2 Strategic Area of
Focus 5, and it is linked to the EPT-2 “PREDICT-2” and “Preparedness.
Objective 3: Support the African and Southeast Asian One
Health University Networks to assist government ministries to train the current
“One Health” workforce (This objective contributes to Strategic Areas of Focus
4 and 5, and it is linked to the EPT-2 “Preparedness and Response” project)
Objective 4: Support developed country. Universities under
OHW in strengthening faculty capacities for One Health teaching, research, and
community outreach for the African and Southeast Asian One Health University
Networks. (This objective contributes to EPT-2 Strategic Area of Focus 5, and
it is linked to the EPT-2 “PREDICT-2 and “Preparedness and Response” projects)
Objective 5: Provide organizational development support to
the African and Southeast Asian One Health University Networks (This objective
contributes to EPT-2 Strategic Area of Focus 5) USAID views OHCEA, SEAOHUN, and
the four Southeast Asian National Coordinating Offices (INDOHUN, VOHUN,
MAYOHUN, THOHUN) as the pivotal organizations for leading change
in academic approaches to creating the one health workforce.
