NIH Parent Grants (R01, R21, R03)

The NIH Parent Grants are awards made to an institution/organization to support a discrete, specified, circumscribed project to be performed by the named investigator(s) in areas representing the specific interests of the investigator(s). The research plan proposed by the applicant institution/organization must be related to the stated program interests of one or more of the NIH Institutes and Centers (ICs) based on descriptions of their programs (contact the Faculty of Tropical Medicine Office of Research Services for assistance identifying which IC to apply to).


There are three mechanisms that you can apply through:


R01: for studies based on a lot of preliminary research; no limit on budget; up to 5-year project period
R21: for exploratory/developmental projects; budget limited at $275,000, 2-year project period
R03: for small projects or feasibility studies; budget limited at $100,000, 2-year project period


Young/new investigators are especially encouraged to apply!


Next deadlines for application submissions: R01 - 5 October 2012;  R03 and R21 - 16 October 2012
